New Pinney Library Plans

New Pinney Library

Message from Pinney Library Manager, Sarah Lawton

It was great to see dozens of community members attend the public meeting on January 31. OPN Architects presented the floor plan concept for the new library, complete with a 3D simulation of the new space, to an audience that spilled out of our community room. It was a testament to the need for a larger space - and it was great to see a community room that accommodates 100 people in the plans for the new library! Other wonderful features include 5 study rooms, a dedicated children's program room, a multipurpose room for making, and expanded space for a slightly larger collection. I think you will be pleased to see some separation between youth and adult areas, gender neutral bathrooms, an emphasis on supporting early learning and literacy through play, and a quiet reading room that will be a great place to soak up some natural light as you enjoy the morning paper. Our friendly staff will be visible and connected to the public in this design.

If you weren't able to make the meeting, you can view the presentation and 3D simulation online. Keep in mind that we have not yet added finishes and color to the space. The furniture that you see is simply a placeholder for now. The next phase includes a lot of work on the color palette and the specific design elements. We're hoping to feature warm colors and wood elements, to make the space really comfortable. These plans are meant to give you a sense of the layout and how the pieces fit together.

We heard a lot of great feedback at the meeting last week. If you have opinions or ideas to share, please don't hesitate to reach out to Sarah Lawton at slawton@madisonpubliclibrary.org.
