¿Alguna vez te has perdido tanto en un libro que ni te das cuenta de lo que está pasando a tu alrededor?
A mí me ha pasado mucho, y también le pasa a Benita, la heroina de este cuento. Benita tiene nuevo libro para devorar, y cuando llega el monstruo Cuco para espantarle ("¡Buu!"), Benita no le hace caso. Cuco intenta con más y más fuerza, pero al fin decide que necesita ayuda. La próxima noche, regresa Cuco con Tunche, gritando "¡Buuuu!" y "¡Fiiiiinnn!". Pero Benita nada más pide silencio. Regresan la noche siguiente con Supay, y los tres por fín logran que Benita cierre su libro. Pero no de miedo, sino para exclamar, "¿No ven que estoy leyondo un libro?"
Los monstruos están sorprendidos: qué es un libro? Dentro de las páginas ven palabras, dibujos, y la magia de leer. Benita les lee cuentos sobre lugares lejanos, valientes monstruos, y baúles de tesoro, pero de repente, ¡llega Yanapuma! "¡Grrrr!"
Y Cuco, Tunche, y Supay le responden, "¿Que no ves que estamos leyendo?"
¡Qué maravilla este libro! Una celebración de la lectura, con información al final sobre Perú y las leyendas de estas criaturas. Como dice la autora en la dedicación, este cuento es para "todos los niños que aman los libros."

Have you ever gotten so lost in a book that you don't even realize what's going on around you?
That has happened to me a lot, and it also happens to Benita, the heroine of this story. Benita has a new book to devour, and when Cuco arrives to scare her ("Boo!"), Benita ignores the creature. Cuco tries harder and harder, but finally decides that they need help. The next night, Cuco returns with Tunche, shouting "Boo!" and "Fiiiiinnn!" But Benita only asks for silence. They return the next night with Supay, and the three finally get Benita to close her book. But not out of fear, rather to exclaim, "Can't you see that I'm reading a book?"
The monsters are surprised: what is a book? Inside the pages they see words, pictures, and the magic of reading. Benita reads them stories about faraway places, brave monsters, and treasure chests, but suddenly, Yanapuma arrives! “Grrrr!"
And Cuco, Tunche, and Supay all respond, "Can't you see we're reading?"
What a wonderful book! A celebration of reading, with information at the end about Perú and the legends of these creatures. As the author says in the dedication, this story is for "all children who love books."
