Example 3: I am looking for information about my great-grandfather, but I am not sure how to spell his name.

Start on the Search for Your Ancestors page.

Fill in the First Name and Last Name fields and then choose Soundex from the pull-down menu under spelling. This will help find a name that matches the phonetic spelling of the name you are looking for. Then click on the orange Search button.

This will give you a list with possible names. Click on View Record to find out more information.

This gives you the Census Record with estimated birth year, birthplace and more. You can choose to print or add to an ancestral chart.
