Quick Guide to Career Library

Exploration Center

Find information about careers—assessment tools to help you choose one and college information and links to college websites organized by state. View videos about particular jobs or lists of jobs based on subjects you’re interested in. Click links to access these features.

Several search options are available here.

• Click Occupation Search to find occupations that interest you
  • Click any sub-topic to search/browse by your criteria.
  • Click an occupation to see more information.
  • College Search—View college profiles and search using various criteria
• Click College Search to help you narrow your college plans
  • Click sub-topic to browse/search within smaller grouping—by majors offered, region, athletics, etc.
  • Click appropriate criteria or check appropriate boxes until you reach the desired level of information.
• Click Quick Search to search and browse occupations, colleges and related information
  • Click sub-topic to see more options
  • Depending on your selections, you may select occupations or colleges from lists.

Planning Center

This section includes college and career planning resources, including Checklists, articles and links to websites related to planning for college or career. This section includes the easy-to-use Resume Builder. All it takes is simply entering your information and Career Builder will create a basic resume for you to print or download.To access Resume Builder:

• Click Career Planning Tools.
• Click Resume Builder
  
• Enter information into spaces and click Next Screen.
• When resume is complete, you can print or save to disk
• To print, follow the usual steps. To download, click Save as Text. The next page will give you directions to download the file. You’ll need to insert a disk or memory device and follow instructions.

Resource Center

This section gathers many of the same resources linked from Exploration Center and Planning Center. Here you can also access links, articles, and videos pertaining to your career/college path.

• Searching for Links and Articles

  • Click Links or Articles
  • Select category from drop down menu and or enter keywords. If you plan to seach by category AND keyword, be sure to click the AND radio button
  • Click the Search for button

  • Click Video Library in navigation list
  • Videos are not searchable, but you may click letter to browse to occupations of interest
  • Each video will have 2 icons next to it—one for Windows Media Player and one for Real Player. Click the icon for the media player you’ll be using and the video will open in that player.

Activity Center

This section allows you to take short quizzes with sample questions from tests such as the GED, SAT, and ACT. Click on the appropriate link to access the quiz and follow the directions from there.

Support

This section provides documents explaining use of various features of the Career Library.
