Go Big Read - Panel on Disability

On Saturday, October 12, we'll be co-hosting a Panel on Disability in partnership with UW-Madison's Go Big Read program in Community Rooms 301 and 302 at Central Library from 2-3:30pm. The panel will be moderated by the City of Madison Disability Rights & Services Specialist, Rebecca Hoyt and cover topics discussed in the 2024-25 Go Big Read title, Sitting Pretty: The View from My Ordinary, Resilient Disabled Body by Rebekah Taussig, including transportation, housing, employment, and accessible infrastructure. 

CART Captioning will be available, and the space is accessible for people who use wheelchairs. Please email the UW-Madison Go Big Read Coordinator (bwillig@wisc.edu(link sends e-mail)) with any questions or accommodation needs.

This event will also be hosted virtually through Zoom; more information will be emailed to you upon registration. Zoom is a free video platform, and you can watch on a browser, through the free mobile app for ios or android, or call in to participate by voice only. Registration is requested and will ask you to indicate if you will be attending in-person or virtually.

  • Brelynn Bille, an intern for the U.S. Department of State under the Special Advisor of International Disability Rights and a current Masters of Public Affairs candidate at UW-Madison
  • Emmett Lockwood, a Disability Justice practitioner
  • Miso Kwak, a PhD student in Special Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • Wendy Weiler, a nationally recognized accessibility advocate who has worked with All Wheels Up (to address inaccessible air travel), , Beyond Compliance Taskforce, the Wisconsin Arts Board Accessibility Committee and more
  • Nicki Vander Meulen, an attorney, Wisconsin Disability Policy fellow, and Madison Metropolitan School District School Board member.
