Madison Public Library's tradition of promoting education, literacy and community involvement has enriched the City of Madison for 150 years. Our nine locations throughout the City of Madison are open six days a week (with limited Sunday hours) and welcome more than 2 million visits each year. 

In 2024 Madison Public Library:

  • Welcomed 1,371,269 visitors from Madison, Dane County, and beyond
  • Circulated 2,239,510 million library books and materials
  • Facilitated 140,958 in-person computer sessions
  • Issued 15,642 new library cards
  • Provided space for 28,195 meetings and study sessions
  • Hosted 4,477 programs with 92,774 attendees
