Tools available from the City of Madison. The City of Madison is establishing its Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiative (RESJI) as a core principle in all decisions, policies, and functions. Launched in the fall of 2013, the initiative focuses on eliminating racial and social inequities in municipal government by implementing strategies in three main areas: Equity in City policies and budgets; Equity in City operations; and Equity in the community.

The racial disparities in Madison and throughout Wisconsin have created two dramatically different realities along racial lines. The disparities between race amongst children in Wisconsin, ranks worst nationally in recent studies. Current services, efforts, and solutions are fragmented and underserving the minority population in Madison and statewide. The goal of Justified Anger is to create a movement that will unite leadership, vision, policy, and strategy to identify the gaps in services and areas of need, and then plan and implement a long-term strategy to improve the lives of minorities in Madison, resources available, and the damaged image of the state as unfriendly for minorities.
The mission of the Madison Wisconsin Institute for Healing of Racism, Inc. is to raise consciousness about the history and pathology of racism and help heal racism in individuals, communities and institutions within the Greater Madison area and all over the US. In doing this, we will at a given time, work cooperatively with other efforts in Madison and with other groups and Institutes for the Healing of Racism throughout America and the world. The role of the steering committee is to initiate and lead efforts that will help the Institute fulfill its mission, working collaboratively with all Institute (participants) members.
In response to the sustained and increasingly visible violence against Black communities in the U.S. and globally, a collective of more than 50 organizations representing thousands of Black people from across the country have come together with renewed energy and purpose to articulate a common vision and agenda.
The Wisconsin Council on Children and Families’ (WCCF) Race to Equity project aspires to make a greater contribution to narrowing and ultimately eliminating racial disparities in Dane County and throughout Wisconsin. R2E seeks to gather information about and learn from what has been done in the past; identify and disseminate the relevant data in health, education, child welfare and criminal justice to all stakeholders; provide tools for the analysis, evaluation and prioritization of both problems and solutions; and create mechanisms for engagement, resulting in more coordinated and comprehensive actions and investments aimed at reducing racial disparities.
