Friends of Sequoya Library Book Sale (6672 Odana Road)

This sale takes place at the Friends of Sequoya Bookshop, 6672 Odana Road.
On the first Saturday of each month, Friends of Sequoya Book Sales take place at our shop located at 6672 Odana Road in Market Square (next to Play-it-Again Sports). Some months also have a "bonus" sale on third Saturdays!
Masks are welcome but not required.

Multi Age Storytime (children & families 5 & under)

READ and PLAY together with children under age 5! Engaging with books, songs and playful experiences all help children develop communication skills, patience, empathy, and pre-reading skills and helps to build a lifelong love of reading. Library programs are always free. Older and Younger siblings and childcare groups are welcome.

CANCELLED: Cyanotype Workshop with Creativity Coach Angela Johnson

We're sorry, this event has been cancelled for this date.
This workshop will explore the history of cyanotypes (a camera-less photography process) as well as offer lots of time for hands-on exploration of this media. Pre-treated fabric will be used to create single and dual sided imagery, using a variety of materials for inspiration including leaves, flowers, stencils and more.
Feel free to bring your own inspirational items from home to use (lace doily, pressed flowers, or other FLAT or translucent materials).
This 3-hour workshop is ideal for older teens 16+ and adults.
Space is limited and registration is required, open on June 22, 2024. All summer cyanotype workshops are the same content and are in high demand; please select one session date. This date is full. Call to be added to a wait list. Registration for the next workshop opens on July 19 at 9 a.m.
Instructor Bio:
Angela Johnson is an artist and educator with a creative spirit. Her teaching career started as a 5th grade Language Arts teacher. No matter the classroom, her teaching philosophy remains the same – give students the tools to grow from learner to leader in both art and life. When not making work, teaching, or working with individuals, groups, and organizations as a creative coach, Angela can be found meditating, kayaking, or scuba diving. She earned her Masters in Art Education and MFA from UW-Madison.

Join us for a special program series in partnership with the Wisconsin Historical Society! Read books together, learn about Wisconsin history and have some fun with a special related activity.
This Saturday's Theme: Wisconsin Families
Wisconsin is home to all kinds of families! Explore a broad definition of what makes a family and learn about some famous Wisconsin families - including the Ringling Brothers! Be inspired by their family dynasty to build your own circus in the children’s area of the library.
Ages 5 and up. Siblings welcome. Children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Our Telling Wisconsin Stories if a program for the whole family! Kids and caregivers alike are invited to stay and engage and learn about Wisconsin History!

Bear In The Forest (a.k.a. Alberto Kanost) hails from Milwaukee, WI, where he found passion in music performance and environmental education. BITF is an attempt to bring those passions together; to use music to reflect the beauty in nature, and remind people of the importance of staying connected to the natural world and their place in it. Some say the songs of Bear In the Forest howl with spiritualism. The sound is built around folk music in the oldest, barest sense: joy and pain and a guitar coming together to produce tones that resonate with ancestral memory.

Flip Books with Angela

Drop-in make a small plant & root themed flip book with local artist and Pinney Library Studio Creativity Coach Angela Johnson. Angela is working with Patrick Mason's Genetics Lab on campus at UW-Madison to create kits to help people understand how plants grow. Learn about how flip books are made, try them out, & offer suggestions! This is a drop-in, try-it workshop for all ages.

Angela Johnson is a professional artist, creativity coach, and educator based in Wisconsin. She earned a master’s in Art Education, an MA in Art and an MFA with a focus in photography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
