Doing Something! with Artist-in-Residence TetraPAKMAN
Friday, Nov 15, 2024, 9:00am to 11:00am
Visitors of all ages are invited to come by the Bubbler Room and work with TetraPAKMAN on engaging, tactile art-making out of recycled materials. Whether we’re building a large-scale, community-generated social sculpture or creating the unthinkable through cardboard construction we need your help!
Some of his ongoing projects include painting bedsheets for a upcoming installation, creating messages out of old keyboard keys or using everyday objects like lids, boxes, and twist-ties to make larger than life sculpture forms.
Many of TetraPAKMAN’s projects scale up or down based on age and timeframe — so come by for 5 minutes, an hour, or more and we will be Doing Something. We’d love your creative additions as he works to transform the Bubbler Room at Central Library!
About the Artist: TetraPAKMAN is a Madison-based artist who has long considered concepts around conservation, and often creates using repurposed/recycled materials. TetraPAKMAN’s practice is focused on community-generated social sculpture projects. His work is about the future, and the challenges we face today as a community. He explores the role of art as a mechanism to generate awareness about the climate crisis.

This is the fifth and final session of a 5-week progressive series. Registration for the series is required and opens at 9am on 9/27.

Adults of all ages are invited to this 5-week session especially designed to be a gentle and inclusive introduction to Tai Chi. No prior experience is needed; this is an adaptive class offering seated, standing, or standing with side support options. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes (no high heels or sandals, tennis shoes are great.) Please try to attend all sessions (October 11, 18, 25 and November 8 and 15).
About the Presenter: In addition to being a Tai Chi and Qigong instructor, Ellen Hussey is a physical therapist, Stepping On facilitator, and a member of the Falls Free Dane coalition of Safe Communities of Madison and Dane County.

Care & Repair: Artisans by Design Book Panel
Meeting Rooms 301 and 302 Combined
Friday, Nov 15, 2024, 7:00pm to 8:00pm
Join us for a panel discussion with Judy Frater, author of the book Artisans by Design, as well as Adil Khatri and Pachan Siju, two textile artists who attended the school discussed in her book. Artisans by Design tells the story of creating the first design school for artisans in India. The book spans 50 years, and shares vignettes of artisans who are living out sustainability as cultural heritage. The design school’s human-centered approach to developing artists and designs honors the tradition, craft and creativity textile artisans in India have showcased for years.
You’ll enjoy a lively, illustrated talk, followed by a trunk show featuring textiles designed and created by graduates of the design education program. Copies of Artisans by Design will be available for purchase from A Room of One’s Own bookstore.
This talk is recommended for adults. No registration is required.
This program is part of the Care & Repair program series, which is made possible thanks to support from Beyond the Page, National Endowment for the Humanities and Madison Community Foundation. See all upcoming programs at madpl.org/careandrepair.
