Grief Circle Workshop at Thurber Park Studio
Saturday, Nov 16, 2024, 10:00am to 12:00pm
Come to the Thurber Studio for a physical and emotional take on the classic sewing circle. There will be sewing, conversation around personal and societal experiences of grief, and some physical exercises aimed at finding our supportive center as makers. Due to space limitations we will be focusing on hand sewing. Bringing some of your own materials is encouraged, but not required. All levels of sewing knowledge is welcomed.
This workshop is a part of Hold & Release, a two-year artist residency at Thurber Park Artist Studio, an indoor public park space currently occupied by artist Jennifer Bastian. Her residency is focused on the grief in our world right now. Jennifer shares, "for some it is delayed processing of loss due to the ongoing Covid pandemic and ramp-up back to “normal,” for others it is due to income inequality or racial inequity in a segregated city, others are impacted by the reality of multiple concurrent genocides around the world. I believe we need space to slow down and process our grief. Art can help us access the emotions our daily lives do not leave room for."
Please note: One or more individuals in this small space are immunocompromised. For that reason, we are requesting all attendees kindly mask before entering. Masks are provided on-site if needed.
Learn more here: https://www.madisonbubbler.org/residencies/thurber-park/current This workshop is designed for adults. Ages 16-18 are welcome to join with an adult or guardian. Registration is required and will open 3 weeks prior to the workshop date.

Jazz at Sequoya: The Brass Knuckles
Meeting Rooms A and B Combined
Saturday, Nov 16, 2024, 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Join us for Saturday Jazz! This month, we welcome the Brass Knuckles.
The Brass Knuckles Quintet and Percussion formed in 2016 by the members of a similar ensemble, Impact of Brass, which discontinued with the retirement of that group's leader and trumpeter, Sandy LaClair.
The unique formation of brass quintet and percussion allows the group to perform for a more diverse set of venues and audiences. The group enjoys being centered in Madison, WI which hosts a rich music scene with many opportunities for performing a wide repertoire including both Mozart and Lady Gaga, from barn weddings to large historic churches.
The Brass Knuckles have been serving audiences all across southwestern Wisconsin from the Dells to up and down the Lake Michigan coast. They are a treat to see in parades and have been featured performers at Old World Wisconsin since 2017.
Jazz at Sequoya features local musicians on the third Saturday of every month. The series is generously funded by the Friends of Sequoya Library.
