Library Takeover: Mirror of Northside Community/Pop-Up Portrait Studio
Through the Library Takeover program at Madison Public Library, four artists--Michelle Kelley, Maria Schirmer Devitt, Savannah Starlin, and Christina Theobald--have come together to transform the library into a professional photo studio with the goal of helping people see themselves more fully reflected in their community.
Local artist Maria Schirmer-Devitt will offer a chance for the Northside of Madison to come together to engage with a mirror mural at Lakeview Library. Explore prompts and questions designed to encourage positive reflection and build community.
Together we’ll write messages on a large mirror answering questions such as:
- How do you want to be seen?
- What makes you unique?
- What beauty do you see in the people around you?
Throughout the process, get to know your neighbors and yourself more deeply. Plus, we’ll be giving away small, personalized mirrors for participants to take home (while supplies last) as a reminder to love themselves. No registration is required; this is a free and multi-generational event.
Light snacks and refreshments will be available throughout the event. Individuals and families are invited to attend.
This event is part of the Library Takeover program. Library Takeover is funded by Madison Public Library Foundation and TruStage.
Looking for the Pop-Up Portrait Studio? This part of the event is FULL! If you'd like to get on the waitlist for professional portraits, please reach out to community@madisonpubliclibrary.org, and we'll let you know if there are any cancellations before Saturday, November 30.
