Library Takeover: Pop-Up Portrait Studio
Explore themes of self-love and self-empowerment through portraiture at this event hosted by a team of Madison creatives at Lakeview Library. Four artists have come together through the Library Takeover process to transform the library into a professional photo studio with the goal of helping people see themselves more fully reflected in their community.
Start your journey with a 20-minute hair and makeup refresh, then get a professional portrait taken in front of one of the beautifully designed sets or on the garden patio (weather pending).
While attendees get their portraits taken, others can engage with a mirror mural with prompts and questions designed to encourage positive reflection and community-building. They will write messages on a large mirror answering questions such as: How do you want to be seen? What makes you unique? What beauty do you see in the people around you?
Light snacks and refreshments will be available throughout the event. Individuals and families are invited to attend. For portrait sessions, registration is required and capacity is limited. However, everyone is encouraged to drop-in and add to the mirror mural.
For those registered to have photos taken, please arrive no later than 20 minutes before your appointment. Due to limited capacity, if you arrive later than 5 minutes before your appointment, you may lose your spot. If your family has more than 3 members please register for two sessions.
If registration is full, please reach out to community@madisonpubliclibrary about getting on a waitlist.
This event is part of the Library Takeover program. Library Takeover is funded by Madison Public Library Foundation and TruStage.
