Embroidered Recipes: A Culinary and Cultural Journey hosted by Unidas por Hilos
Community Rooms A and B and Kitchen Combined
Saturday, Feb 8, 2025, 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Join Unidas por Hilos for monthly workshops where a member will teach participants how to prepare a traditional meal, share personal memories associated with the dish, and embroider the recipe on cloth from the tablecloths used during the meals.
Unidas por Hilos is a community of Latina immigrants, living in Dane county, Wisconsin, who create textile art and community. Their group provides a safe and inclusive space where Latinas connect with each other and share their experiences as immigrants living in the United States. Through their textile art, they not only showcase their cultural heritage, but also share their stories, struggles, and triumphs. Their group is a testament to the power of community and the resilience of immigrant communities. Although they come from different countries and backgrounds, they are united by their love of art making and shared experiences as immigrants.
This is a FREE workshop.
Registration is required to participate.

Faces for the Future: Mask Making with TetraPAKMAN
Saturday, Feb 8, 2025, 2:00pm to 4:30pm
Unleash your kid's creative power!! Join us for a fun-filled, creative adventure where imagination meets sustainability! In this youth-focused program designed and led by artist-in-residence TetraPAKMAN, children will transform everyday cereal boxes into vibrant, one-of-a-kind masks by using a variety of art supplies and materials - familiar and unknown! Participants will learn to cut, shape, fold and decorate household cardboard boxes pulled from the recycling bin into imaginative masks inspired by animals, characters, or anything they dream up.
This open-ended program encourages creative expression, environmental awareness, and hands-on making for all ages. There's no right or wrong way to create—just endless possibilities of self-expression through art with intentional materials.
This gathering will arm grown-ups with tactics, (TetraPAKMAN’s) top tools for creating and permission to try this type of open-ended experimentation and play at home…without leaving your home covered in paint and slime.
