Cinesthesia presents 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

An imposing monolith connects the past and future in this enigmatic film based on a short story by revered sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke, and directed by cinema legend Stanly Kubrick.

Presented by Jason Fuhrman, Cinesthesia shows noteworty art films, neglected masterpieces, and obscure works by famous directors you will probably not see on a big screen elsewhere in Madison. First Thursday of every month.

First Friday Flicks: Lady Bird (2017)

  • Friday, April 6, 6:30-8:30pm at Pinney Library

In 2002, an artistically inclined seventeen-year-old girl comes of age in Sacramento, California.

Seating is first come, first served with space for 50 attendees. Doors open 1/2 hour before the film start time. Light refreshments to be provided by the Friends of Pinney Library.

Movies Too Good to Miss presents...

A mix of independent films, foreign feature films, and documentaries.  Suggestions for future screenings are welcome. All foreign films are shown in original language, with English subtitles as needed. Refreshments are always served.

Indie Lens Pop-Up presents Look and See: Wendell Berry's Kentucky (2016)

  • Thursday, April 12, 6:30-8:45pm at Central Library
This film by Laura Dunn is a portrait of the changing landscapes and shifting values of rural America in the era of industrial agriculture, as seen through the mind’s eye of award-winning writer and farmer Wendell Berry, back home in his native Henry County, Kentucky.

Please stay after the film for a discussion with local experts and community leaders.

Indie Lens Pop-Up is a neighborhood series that brings people together for film screenings and community-driven conversations and features documentaries seen on the PBS series Independent Lens. This series is a co-partnership with ITVSWisconsin Public Television, and Madison Public Library.

Friday Night Anime presents...

A wide range of anime genres are shown - primarily titles newly released (or re-released) in the US, with a few classic older titles mixed in. This anime series is for adults and older teens, many of the films are equivalent to an R rating.  All films are shown in Japanese with English subtitles, and refreshments are always served.

Special Presentation: AJ Carr (2017)

  • Monday, April 16, 7-8:45pm at Central Library

A documentary film about AJ Carr, a 14-year-old high school student, professional actor and public speaker who founded the Building Bossesnon-profit organization, and set his mind to serve the community and build future leaders.

AJ is a Madison-area resident and he will be present for a talkback after the showing, along with filmmaker Ting-Li Lin.

Film Movement Screening: The Paris Opera (L'Opera) (2017)

  • Wednesday, April 18, 6:30-8:30pm at Pinney Library
(French w/ English subtitles) The Palais Garnier has been the home of the Paris Opera since 1875, and this documentary takes viewers inside the building and behind the scenes during one season.

Award winning, thought provoking International Independent films, courtesy of Film Movement. Non-English language films are sub-titled. For mature audiences.

Special Presentation: Madison Metro Bus Lines Poetry Reception and Film Screening

  • Monday, April 23, 5-8pm at Central Library

Join us for a reception honoring the poets selected to be part of the 2018 City of Madison Poet Laureate and Madison Metro Bus Lines Poetry Project from 5:00-6:30 pm, followed by a screening of the film Dead Poets Society (1989) at 6:30 pm.
