When Georgie was a teenager no one in her small home town expected much of her. She was flaky and aimless. But somehow, after leaving home for California, she managed to make a life as the the personal assistant to a Hollywood power player. The problem is, her boss has suddenly picked up sticks and retired and now Georgie is at a loss. She's used to taking care of every little aspect of someone else's life and has no clue how to do the same with her own. And so she does what all big city gals, who are at a crossroads, do in rom-coms. She moves back to her parents place in Virginia - just until she figures things out, of course. But with the move into her parents house comes the complication of Levi Fanning - the older brother of Georgie's high school crush who has also been offered the use of her parents' home. And though Georgie is initially leery of the grumpy man and his dog, she agrees to share the space with him. Soon sparks and feelings fly.
If my description of the novel sounds familiar? You're not wrong. This is that plot found in many a contemporary romance or Hallmark movie. But Kate Clayborn makes it all feel fresh and original here. Of course Georgie and Levi are going to fall for one another, but that's only part of the story. They're also learning to shed the stories their town holds about them and not let the past define their present or future. It's nicely done. And if it were made into one of 'those' movies? I'd watch it too.
