The Lion Dance

Community Room
Saturday, Oct 5, 2024, 10:00am to 11:00am

Join Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association as they perform The Lion Dance at Alicia Ashman Library.

Traditionally, during the Chinese New Year, Lion Dance Troupes will visit various establishments throughout the community to perform the traditional custom of "Cai Qing" (採青) or "Plucking the Greens". Like a curious cat, the lion dances over to the green and red envelope or “Hóngbāo” (紅包), which contains money, and eats the green. Once the green is transformed into good fortune, the lion spits it out, keeping the red envelope. The lion dance is believed to bring good luck and fortune to all places they visit.

Come and enjoy this exciting event! All are welcome and no registration is required.
