This multi-generational story traces the stories of two brothers, Udayan and Subhash, in 1960s Calcutta. When brash and adventurous Udayan is killed in a political uprising, obedient Subhash marries his brother’s widow Gauri and moves to Rhode Island to complete his degree. But his good deed will be punished as Subhash and Gauri struggle with grief and complexities of marriage and parenthood as revelations about the past surface.
