Nonfiction author Melissa Stewart delivers another great book, highlighting some of the mini-est mammals on earth.

This book is set up as a visit to an exhibit at the natural history musuem, complete with a red curtain and wooden frames around mini-mammals, each depicted at their actual size. After answering the question, "What's a mammal?" (you are!), this book showcases ten tiny mammals with a paragraph about each one and a highlighted tiny tidbit - did you know that a lesser hedgehog tenree weighs about the same as a softball?

Every few pages the animals escape their frames to make a run for it and have to be corralled back. With each new animal that we learn about, the book asks, "is this the mini-est mammal of all?," but the next animal is always smaller until we finally get to the last one. Which mammal is the smallest of them all? You'll have to read this book to find out!

Backmatter includes a map showing where each of these mini-mammals live and small stats on each, including their scientific names, habitats, size, and an interesting curator's note.
