Sam, Otter, Atim, and Chickadee are four inseparable cousins growing up on the Windy Lake First Nation. Nicknamed the Mighty Muskrats for their habit of laughing, fighting, and exploring together, the cousins find that the best mysteries are the ones that are solved through teamwork by loving families.
While Atim, Chickadee, Samuel, and Otter are excited to attend the big Exhibition Fair and catch their favorite band in the nearby Big City, the cousins are also on a case that really hits home as they to find out what happened to Grandpa's younger sister after she was "scooped" up in the Canadian government's efforts to educate indigenous kids away from their families and homelands.
Highly recommended for middle grade readers and fans of The Boxcar Children, this second installment in the Mighty Muskrats Mysteries doesn't shy away from the hard truths of residential schools, racism and inter-generational trauma, but remains grounded in empathy and love.
