A review of The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by S. A. Chakraborty

Shannon Chakraborty is back with a new magical adventure (after her Daevabad trilogy) set on the Indian Ocean and introducing a bold, smart, and notorious female pirate, Amina al-Sirafi. Let the sea voyages and the hunt for a kidnapped girl commence.

Amina is living a retired life raising her daughter and helping her parents and brother maintain the family property when she's approached by a wealthy woman with an offer she can't refuse. Literally, she can't. Because the money offered is too good to pass up, because the woman knows just a little too much about Amina's criminal past, and because the girl who's been kidnapped is the daughter of a former crewmate. Now, though she's reluctant to leave her own beloved daughter behind, Amina sets out to reform her band of pirates and complete her mission.

This one takes a little time to get going, but when it does? Whew! It's a thrill ride and one I was so excited to be on. I am equally thrilled that there will be two more books to come featuring the lady pirate and her gang.
