Madison Public Library is honored to partner with the City of Madison Clerk's Office once again to provide a location for voter registration, in-person absentee voting, and election day voting in 2025. We will be updating this page as information changes and in-person absentee voting dates are set. Always check the City Clerk's website and social media for the most up-to-date information.

Please note that libraries can not answer many voting questions. Please call the City Clerk's office at 608-266-4601 with questions related to voting and the election.

 

In-Person Absentee Voting

In-Person Absentee Voting (IPAV) takes place in the City of Madison from March 18-30 for the April 1 Spring ElectionAll nine Madison Public Library locations are serving as early voting locations but dates and times vary by location. Please check the information listed below before traveling:

  • 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays, March 18-28
  • 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturdays, March 22 & 29

Central Library, 201 W Mifflin St

  • 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays, March 18-28

PLEASE NOTE: Monroe Street Library isn't open on Thursdays and is only offering In-Person Absentee Voting during the first week from March 18-22

People can register to vote ON SITE when voting absentee in-person. Voters who need to register due to a recent move or name change will also need to show an acceptable proof of address document. Registration will not be available on March 29 or 30 because registration is not allowed the three days before an election.

An absentee voter must return their own completed absentee ballot to Clerk staff at an in-person absentee voting location

 You can register to vote at In Person Absentee Voting sites with City Clerk officials leading up to and on Election Day except for during the three days prior to Election Day (Tuesday, April 1). You can also register to vote online, at the Clerk's office, and at the library throughout the year with certain exceptions.

Absentee Ballot Return

Below are the ways you can return your absentee ballot to libraries:

  • You can return your absentee ballot to city clerk staff during the hours of in-person absentee voting. Voters will not be able to drop off their absentee ballots at the library outside of in-person absentee hours.
  • Voters can return absentee ballots to Ballot Drop Boxes available around the city until 5 p.m. the day before the election.
  • On election day, you must return your absentee ballot to your polling place. If the library is your polling place, clerk staff will accept absentee ballots on April 1 (Spring Election Day) from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. You can look up your polling place online.

The 2025 Spring Primary will take place Tuesday, April 1. You MUST VOTE AT YOUR POLLING LOCATION on election day, and note that polling places may have changed since the last election. Find your polling place 

Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Election day. If you are in line to vote at 8 p.m., you will be allowed to cast your ballot. At locations serving as polling places on election day, Madisonians can register to vote, return absentee ballots and vote in person. Here's a list of key dates to be aware of during the 2025 Spring Election: 

  • March 11, 2025: Absentee Ballots Mailed to voters with requests on file. Track the status of your absentee at https://MyVote.wi.gov
  • February 26, 2025: Online and Mail Voter Registration Closes. Final day to register to vote online or through the mail.
  • March 18, 2025: In-Person Absentee Voting Begins.
  • March 24, 2025: Mail It Back Monday. Voters returning absentees via mail should do so by today.
  • March 27, 2025: Absentee via Mail Request Deadline for most voters, but Post Office might not deliver by Tuesday.
  • March 28, 2025: Final In-Person Voter Registration at Absentee Sites. Voters may still register at the polls on Election Day.
  • March 30, 2025: Final Day of In-Person Absentee Voting
  • April 1, 2025: Election Day. Polls open 7 a.m. and remain open until 8 p.m. Election results are posted on County Clerk’s website.
  • April 4, 2025: Provisional Deadline. Provisional voters have until 4 p.m. to get a copy of their ID to the Clerk’s Office.
